HIGHGATE Harriers ended their track and field season on a high on Saturday when they won their final meet in Division One of the Southern League
The north London club piled on the points with a series of scintillating victories in the ‘A’ team competition in Woking.
Danny Russell surely covered the most ground as he won both the 5000m and the 1500m in respective times of 15:0.23 and 4:09.8.
Matt Dore-Weeks was as busy as usual, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.70m and the pole vault with 2.40m. Under-17s athlete Liam Ormes also struck gold in the long jump with 5.84m.
In the ‘B’ team category Koffi Appiah won the 400m in 51.1 and in the high jump with 1.55m.
Rob Bahelbi won the 1500m in 4:18.7 and was second in the 800m in 2:01.6.
Ben Gritz won the high hurdles in a time of 17secs flat, while stalwart Thierry Le Breton won both the ‘B’ pole vault and hammer events.
Oxford Doctor David Bruce wrapped up a successful meet by winning the 5000m in 15:07.3, helping Highgate finish nine points clear of their closest rivals with 146 points.
Overall the club finished fifth out of the 25 clubs with 722.5 match points and 23 league points.
The Harriers initially finished sixth overall, but Newham and Essex Beagles were punished for fielding an ineligible athlete at a meeting at Parliament Hill in July.
