Football: Kentish Town FC vs Bethnal Green United on August 20

PLAYERS from Kentish Town FC will be looking to “reverse the result” on Saturday when they travel to Mile End Stadium in east London to take on Bethnal Green United in the FA Cup.

The Townies saw their dreams of reaching Wembley shattered last season when they were knocked out of the competition with a 3-1 defeat at the hand of their London rivals.

This time around, however, manager John Creith is confident that his team will be the ones celebrating at the end of the extra-preliminary round tie.

“It will be a tough match but I know what we are capable of,” he said.

“We just need to go there and have belief in our ability and let our football do the talking.

“We’ve got a good mix of young lads who are hungry with three or four older, more experienced, players.

“For a lot of the lads this is the first time that they’ve played in the FA Cup, so we’re just going to go there and enjoy the occasion and, hopefully, get a good result.”

Kentish Town endured a tough campaign last term, which ended with them being relegated to Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.

This season hasn’t got off to a great start either as they lost 4-0 at home against New Bradwell St Peter on Saturday in their opening fixture.

Despite the disappointments the manager is sure his side will bounce back and go on to achieve their goals.

“We are looking forward to a positive season,” John said.

“We started off badly on Saturday with a heavy defeat at home.

“But we’re still confident we can achieve our goal for the season, which is to steady the ship and build for the future.

“We have some very talented youngsters who have shown the first-team players that they want their places in the team.”

And club director Frank Zanre couldn’t help but get a little carried away as the Townies prepared for Saturday’s big showdown.

“I always get excited when we take part in the FA Cup as it is such a wonderful competition,” he said.

“We all dream of reaching Wembley and taking on one of the bigger clubs.

“Who knows what is around the next corner?

“We are excited about our future, especially when you watch some of the players in training.

They now need to transfer that form to the pitch on match days.”
