THIERRY Henry dodged questions about the future of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and the Gunners’ chances of success this season when he returned to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The club’s greatest ever goalscorer (pictured) was respected among the sports writers for the generous time he gave reporters after matches during his Arsenal career.
But he clammed up when journalists tried to prise open his views on the fortunes of Arsene Wenger’s current team following the action in the pre-season Emirates Cup.
When asked about the likelihood of Fabregas following the path he trod from Arsenal to Barcelona, he said: “Ask the boss. Did you speak to the boss? I am not the boss.”
Henry also refused to predict whether the club would win trophies or not this campaign, adding: “I’m a fan so I’m going to say they can. I’m not going to talk about that now so don’t bother.”
Henry exposed the weaknesses at Arsenal as he set up a late equaliser to earn the New York Red Bulls a 1-1 draw, a result that was good enough to see the American side win the Emirates Cup.
“I made my own decision to go to Barcelona. Cesc is his own man and will make his own decision,” Henry said.
Talking about his life in the US, Henry said: “I’m not missing the Premiership. It is an amazing league but I did what I had to do. The Arsenal fans know that I always tried to give everything. It wasn’t always good enough but I always gave 100 per cent and it was special coming back here.”
