Archie’s treble seals it

HOTSHOT Archie Roberts smashed home a tremendous treble to complete a historic hat-trick for Acland Burghley School in the Under-16s Camden and Islington Cup.

Held at St Aloysius College Playing Fields in Highgate, the midfielder walked away with the match ball after his clinical finishes saw his school in Burghley Road, Tufnell Park, crowned champions for the third year in a row.

Roberts fired the Year 11 side to a 3-1 victory over rivals William Ellis before dedicating his goals and the trophy to team-mate Aaron Pedro, who missed the final after breaking his leg just three days earlier while playing football in a Sunday league.

Led by captain Jacob Jervis-Bond, Burghley put in a tremendous team effort to win the trophy for a record third year. Alongside the skipper, Aaron Murray was also outstanding in midfield, while Wole Bello put in a commanding display in the heart of the defence.

Manager Dave Jacob, who teaches PE at the school, paid tribute to his triumphant team, who he also guided to victory in Year 9 and Year 10.

He said: “It’s been a pleasure teaching these boys for the past five years.

“They’ve worked so hard and really deserve the success that they’ve had.

“Winning the trophy for the third year in a row is a fitting end to their footballing careers at Acland Burghley.”
