Camden Fencing Club competes in World Junior and Cadet Championships

A FIVE-STRONG team from Camden Fencing Club put their skills to the ultimate test when they competed in the World Junior and Cadet Championships in Jordan. 

Twins Fabio and Gianfranco Artesi competed in the men’s under-17s cadet sabre. Having successfully come through the group stages, Gianfranco beat Belgian duo Pieter de Vos and Jules-Emile de Visscher in the knockout stages. 

He eventually finished a creditable 13th after losing 15-8 to Peter Pak from America. 

Fabio won three out of his six pool matches before losing 15-8 to Russia’s Mikhail Gorskiy, earning him 38th place overall. 

In the men’s under-20s sabre event Soji Aiyenuro and Curtis Miller both put in solid displays before narrowly losing to top seeds. 

Soji finished 40th after being beaten 15-11 by Italy’s Stefano Scepi, while Miller took 54th place after losing 15-14 to Russia’s Trofim Velikiy in a nail-biting encounter. 

In the women’s under-17s cadet sabre event Aliya Itzkowitz finished in 28th place after losing 15-2 to Korean Heewon Yang.
