PARLIAMENT Hill Fields proved a happy stomping ground yet again for top athletes from Highgate Harriers when the club hosted their popular open meet recently.

Among the individual winners were Eric Guei and Rasaid Conteh, who won their 100m races in respective times of 11.7 seconds and 12 seconds flat.

Under-13s runner Alexander Machin-Paley highlighted Highgate’s impressive junior programme by recording a time of 2:34.4 to win the 800m.

The individual track victories continued to mount with Tate Sedar winning the 400m in 63.4.

Highgate were just as successful in the field with University College School pupil Oscar Piotrowicz hitting a distance of 26.5 metres, while team-mate Lulu Szego threw 18.59m.

In the junior ranks Highgate boasted 25 under-11s taking part in the long jump. The best jump was by Arnold Mensuoh, who covered a distance of 3.52m.

Neighbouring running club London Heathside joined in the fun at Parliament Hill Fields. Among their top performers was Ed Samuel, who finished seventh in the 300m with a time of 9:34.4. Team-mate Paul Lemmon crossed the finishing line 23 seconds later to finish fifth.

Heathside have enjoyed a string of positive results recently. Experienced runner Gavin Evans took second place in the Finsbury Park 5k Run. Completing the course in 18 minutes, 46 seconds, he was the first veteran in the over-50s age category to cross the finishing line.
