NEWLY promoted Hampstead Ladies (pictured)  made a dream start to the season on Sunday when they returned to action with a magnificent victory over Ashford in South East One of the National Challenge Rugby League.

The high-scoring side, made up of players from across Camden and Islington, remained undefeated last term when they secured their second promotion in three years.

And the summer break seems to have done nothing to slowdown the champions’ domination as they kicked off their new campaign with a resounding 43-0 home win at Hampstead Heath.

Islington duo Marcella Collins (pictured going for the line) and Nadine Mason scored two tries each, while newcomer Kat Matfield, vice-captain Kate Gallagher and Anna Jones also hit the line. Sturdy kicking from Keshia Evans completed the win as she scored four conversions.

“Delighted” coach John Taylor said: “It’s a new league for us and tougher opposition than last year so a strong start and a disciplined performance is what I asked the girls to deliver, and they did.”

• Hampstead Ladies are holding a club fundraiser at the World’s End pub in Finsbury Park on Saturday October 23 at 7.30pm.

There will be a raffle and a auction of club members’ skills, which include massages and surfing lessons. Tickets cost £7, email hampsteadladies@hotmail.co.uk for further details.
