A SINGLE strike from Mo Gray was enough to earn Hampstead all three points against old rivals Newham on Sunday in the Greater London Women’s League.
The defender scored from close range midway through the first half after Char Blackmore saw her initial header parried by the Newham goalkeeper.
Blackmore came within inches of doubling the advantage when she got on the end of Becky Barnes’s cross, only for her shot to hit the underside of the upright.
Hampstead manager John Baker was delighted with the win.
He said: “When the fixture list came out, this was the first game I looked.
Newham have always proved that over a season they are the team to beat, so this was a huge result. The girls were amazing.”
