CHAMPIONS Phoenix really are on fire in Division One of the Camden Sunday League after smashing nine goals past Cobden Athletic at Hackney Marshes.
The league leaders showed tremendous resilience as they came from behind three times before eventually going goal crazy against their title rivals.
Captain Michael Pattrick led by example as he scored a stunning hat-trick from midfield to earn the match ball. A Phoenix win wouldn’t be complete without leading scorer Anthony Clarke finding the back of the net, and the striker didn’t disappoint as he struck twice to take his personal tally to seven goals in three games.
Jake King also scored twice, while Lewis Laws marked his debut with a goal as Phoenix ran out 9-3 winners. Meanwhile Division Two side the Constitution beat Division One opponents Lord Southampton in a seven-goal thriller in the opening round of the Senior Cup.
A Laurence Lee hand-ball gifted Southampton the lead from the penalty spot, but the Con weren’t behind for long as Seb Timmins headed home an equaliser. Lee then made amends for his hand-ball by firing Constitution into a 2-1 lead.
In a topsy-turvy game Tony Dowsett struck twice in quick succession to restore Southampton’s lead. Sub Sam O’Donald made it 3-3 when he chipped the keeper, before Timmins grabbed the winner late on with his second of the game after latching on to Garry Miller’s perfectly-weighted through-ball.
