• ISLINGTON’S Primary Schools District football team got their first win of the season on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Westminster in the Kay Trophy.
Held at St Aloysius playing fields, Islington took the lead five minutes into the second half when a quick turn and shot from Canaan McDonald caught the goalkeeper off-guard.
Five minutes later Albert Hicks doubled the advantage when he added the finishing touches to Zack O’Neill’s well-weighted through-ball.
Adam Tazi wrapped up an impressive 3-0 win when his shot found the back of the net with the help of a deflection.
Islington thought they had grabbed a fourth when Hicks scored his second goal of the game, but the ball ran through a hole in the net and the referee didn’t give it.
“We were a bit out of shape but we stepped up a gear in the second half and proved we were the better team,” said manager Michael MacNeill.
