TOP of the table Earlsberg Eagles underlined their promotion ambitions on Saturday with a vital away win against Inter Markfield at Downs Park in Tottenham.

Competing in Division One of the West End League, the Eagles came under the cosh early on with keeper Steve Bettison making a series of fine saves within the opening 10 minutes.

The game was tipped on its head in the 24th minute when midfielder Daniel Loughney latched onto a pinpoint through ball from centre-back John Lyon before calmly slotting past the keeper to give the Eagles the lead.

Inter started the second half well, but couldn’t find a way past a resolute Eagles defence.

The visitors had the chance to double their lead in the 68th minute, only for striker Kris Kulley to see his goal-bound effort tipped round the post by the Inter keeper.

In the end the Eagles held on to the 1-0 win, a result that leaves them well-placed for promotion to the Premier League with just four games to go.
