PETER Crouch boosted his World Cup hopes last night (Wednesday) when he came off the bench to spare England’s blushes.
The Spurs striker scored twice in front of a packed Wembley crowd of 80,602 as England came from a goal down to beat Egypt, writes John Evans.
Mohamed Zidan’s 23rd minute strike gave the Africa Cup of Nations winners the lead.
Crouch marked the change of fortunes when he scored minutes after coming on as a sub.
Shaun Wright-Phillips grabbed the second, before turning provider for Crouch to wrap up a 3-1 victory.
With the big kick-off in South Africa looming, Crouch has surely done enough to impress boss Fabio Capello, unlike Arsenal’s Theo Walcott who is still struggling to find his form.
