IT’S not often a team cheers before they even get their hands on a trophy, but the borough’s latest champions did just that.

The group of 15 girls and one boy who make up their Calthorpe Cougars Cheerleaders were jumping for joy after returning home from the Heart of England Regional Competition with two trophies.

The triumphant squad put in perfect displays at Loughborough university, showing off their tumbling, stunting, dancing and cheering skills. Their routines wowed the judges, earning them top spot in both the junior novice and the senior level coed categories. Head cheer coach Valerie Amajoutt said afterwards: “The team was amazing, they showed such great commitment and dedication. They worked really hard, and fully deserve their trophies.”
