CHAMPIONS St Pancras added the finishing touches to a magnificent season on Friday when they beat Angel Islington to win the Under-9s ‘B’ Division of the Camden and Islington Youth League.
The unbeaten Saints went into the Market Road showdown knowing that they only needed to avoid defeat against rivals Angel to take the title.
Showing the kind of spirit that had seen them win 10 of their previous 13 games, St Pancras refused to settle for anything less than a victory, which came courtesy of a stunning strike from midfielder Bailey Johnston.
The goal proved to be decisive, especially with Malachi Burrell and Davis Gomez putting in superb displays in the heart of the Saints’ defence.
They helped keep a deserved clean-sheet, meaning goalkeeper Amar Suleiman has conceded just five goals all season.
Wingers Tony Crawford and Joel Chileshe, midfielders Bradley Passade and Michael Diver and substitutes Sol Staggs, Ardi Canolli, Jamie Sanches and Zakariya Gaunt also all played their part as the Saints ran out 1-0 winners.
Club secretary Jackie Osborne, who has decided the time has come for her and her husband Mark to move on after 10 years with St Pancras, said: “It was an emotional night, to see them win the league was the icing on the cake. I’m very proud of the team because they’ve worked so hard. I want to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity, especially club owner Barry Archer.”
