FENCER Soji Aiyenuro will be given the chance to defend one of his most prestigious titles after being selected again to represent London at the 2010 Sainsbury’s UK School Games.
The 17-year-old, who lives in Belsize Park, will compete in the men’s individual sabre tournament in Sunderland at the start of September.
The delighted youngster (pictured) said: “The weekend was like a real World Championship event. I am really excited to go and defend the gold medal which I won in Cardiff last year.”
Youth Sport Trust ambassador and Olympic heptathlon gold medalist Denise Lewis said: “Congratulations to Soji for being selected to represent England.
“This is a fantastic achievement.
“The event provides a unique opportunity to experience the life of a professional athlete, learn to manage schedules, eat healthily and how to cope with distractions from things like the athlete’s village, and opening and closing ceremonies.
“I believe the Sainsbury’s UK School Games plays a vital role in encouraging young people to strive to be future champions and achieve their best, and I hope Soji uses this event to develop his sporting career.”
