FIGHTERS from Islington Boxing Club in Archway scooped three gold medals at the 2010 Haringey Box Cup in Alexandra Palace over the weekend.

First in the ring was Sara Knieper making her club debut against Meely Lo from the Bodyshots gym in Kent in the 67kg division.

The opener saw Knieper use her jab to good effect, regularly catching Lo with snapping shots.

The second round was a much closer affair but Knieper upped her tempo in the third to gain a majority decision.

James Woodward continued Islington’s reign in the ring when he beat the highly-fancied Marcus French from the Eastside ABC in the 67kg ‘B’ class final.

Having beaten Israrullah Yaqguzai from Repton in the semi-finals, Woodward went into the final showdown in confident mood.

The Islington boxer began with some accurate punching, covering up well when French went on the attack. French came well back in the second, leaving the contest in the balance going into the final round.

Both boxers traded blows in a frantic finale, with Woodward  just earning a majority verdict.

Junior welterweight Jordan Grannum brought the curtain down  for Islington with an impressive display against Tom Daniels from the Peacock Gym.

Grannum establish control from the outset, using a stiff jab to pick off his opponent.

The young Islington fighter looked in control throughout, with all three judges declaring him a clear winner at the bell.
