Dale Buckham takes runner-up spot at Midsummer Hampstead race despite leg injury

HIGHGATE Harrier Dale Bickham overcame a leg injury to take the runners-up spot in the Midsummer Hampstead 10k road race on Sunday.

Organised by London Heathside Athletics Club, the event is run round the streets of Hampstead Garden Suburb.

Bickham managed to hold his stride to finish second out of a field of 175 runners with a time of 34 minutes, 24 seconds.

The winner was Andrew Greenleaf of Winchester AC, who completed the course in 31.53.

The first woman to finish was Highgate’s Sarah Bailey who clocked a time of 40 minutes flat, while team-mate Natasha Cendrowicz was the first runner in the over-35s to complete the testing race, crossing the finishing line in 44.33.

Ricardo Suarez-Lee was the first home for hosts London Heathside, recording a time of 35.45 to take seventh place.

Clubmate Gavin Evans also claimed a top-10 finish in ninth spot with a time of 37.55.

Jo Green recorded a personal best of 37.58 to finish 10th and become the first veteran over 40 to finish the race on the day.
