A NEW name has been etched on the championship trophy in Division One of the Camden Sunday League after Phoenix stormed to title glory.
The free-scoring side ended Reddots’ reign as champions with a series of barnstorming displays, scoring 27 goals in just eight games.
Manager Dave Harber, who has been in charge of the side for almost five years with his partner Karen Marshall, described the title triumph as one of his “proudest moments in football”.
Dave, who lives in Camden Town, said: “This is my biggest achievement since taking over the club. I have players around me who know what it takes to win trophies, they have a great mentality and fully deserve their success. Reddot have been great champions, so beating them to the title makes our victory extra special,” he added.
Showing a true winners’ mentality, Dave isn’t about to sit back and enjoy the club’s success too much.
“We’ve already turned our attentions towards next season, and are going to strengthen our squad.
“Now the boys have tasted glory, they want more and are fully committed to defending their title next season.”
One of the main factors behind Phoenix’s glory is former Reddot striker Anthony Clark, who has bagged 29 goals in all competitions so far. The leading scorer is still aiming to add to his tally as Phoenix look to complete the treble by winning the Senior Cup and the President’s Cup.
“Anthony has been different class and deserves a special mention.
“Not only has he scored vital goals for us, but he’s taken the reins as assistant manager and helped bring in some good players.
“Abdi Ahmed and Wayne Moralee have also been instrumental throughout the campaign,” Dave added.
