YOUNG members of Camden Gymnastics Club proved that practice can make perfect as they put in a string of fine performances in competition across the south east.

Camden’s boys set the standard with highly placed finishes in the annual Peter Moore Competition at Harrow Gym Club, while both the boys and girls were in top form in a gold, silver and bronze novice two-piece competition at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Essex.

Performing on parallel bars, pommel, rings, high bar, floor and vault, the boys all finished in the top six in levels one to five at the annual six-piece event at Harrow.

Raekwon Baptiste, Drew Cahane, Luke Apata and Issa Francois all took first place in their levels, with Oscar Statman and Hugo Bennetts taking second, Daveed Roodner and Theo Gayle third and Rmarni Aguiler sixth.

“Their hard work has paid off and it is a great end to the year,” said head of boys Steve Russo, who coaches the squad with Ivan Pastore and Nicola McRae at Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town.

It was a similar story at Goresbrook, where the group coached by Fay Matthews, Gemma Boyle and Adrienne Child, competed at three levels in floor and vault.

Rebecca Harding, Daniel Cheung and Jolyon Michael were in top form, taking first at silver level. Other high performers were Grace Oliner, who was third at gold level, and Edward Horrix, who achieved a fourth place finish at bronze level for a step up to silver.

Zoe Gray, Anne-Marie Cheung, Keon Figuroa, Tabitha Stoecker, Nell Arendt and Angelica Sacrepaye also performed to high standards, taking fifth and sixth places at the competition in silver and bronze levels.
