• PHOENIX have become the new dominant force in the Camden Sunday League after completing a memorable double at the weekend.
Having already been crowned Division One champions, the high-flying side beat arch rivals Reddot 3-2 to lift the Senior Cup at Cockfosters Stadium.
Phoenix took the lead when Paul Dunne headed home Jason Donlon’s corner.
Having edged in front the champions should have put the game out of sight, but a string of fine saves from Dots’ keeper Letty Lyons kept the game hanging in the balance.
Reddot somehow managed to turn the game around.
First Emanuel Hanson scored from close range, before Paul Reid gave Micky Dowsett’s side a 2-1 lead from the penalty spot.
Phoenix, however, weren’t to be beaten and hit back to level the scores thanks to a Paul “Gazza” Butler thunderbolt.
Spurred on by man-of-the-match Jake King, Phoenix clinched the cup in the dying minutes when Justin Pryce smashed home a dramatic late winner.
Manager Dave Harber, who runs the side with his partner Karen Marshall, couldn’t hide his delight after the game.
“All the boys have made me so proud. I want to thank each and every one of them for all the hard work they’ve put in throughout the season,” he said.
“I also want to thank Karen for all the effort she puts in behind the scenes. Hopefully now we’ll push on and win more silverware next season.”
