ENERGETIC youngsters donned their running shoes on Sunday to take up the challenge of the Mini Marathon.
A team of 48 athletes from Camden and 42 from Islington raced around the final three miles of the London Marathon, starting at Old Billingsgate and finishing in The Mall.
Alistair Gaunt secured Camden’s best position when he finished 16th overall in the boys 13-14 age group with a time of 17.29 minutes. The fastest boy for the borough was Max Coventry, who took 77th place in the boys 15-17 category in a time of 17.28.
The only Camden girl to clock a sub 21-minute time was Alice Keane, who completed the testing  under-18s race in 19.53 to take 24th spot.
Among 11 to 17-year-olds representing Islington were St Aloysius College pupils Simon Rosum, Miron Woldemichael, Jake Mattison, Daniel Szajna, Abed Tarapdar, Larry Oppong and Beni Ngwamah.
Along with Highbury Grove pupil Ouldlid Manassib, the boys put on a tremendous team effort in the 15-17 age group.
There was a somber moment in the girls 15-17 age group, with Kendar Tye-Page running the Mini Marathon for the last time. She’ll get the chance to return as a senior next year, just like Highgate Harrier William Laing who completed his first London Marathon in a time of 3.39:55.
