Spurs hunt down Arsenal

Tottenham smash Man City, while Gunners only draw at Burnley

THERE were mixed fortunes for north London’s finest last night (Wednesday) as Spurs beat Manchester City, while Arsenal dropped points at Burnley.
The Gunners looked to be heading for a valuable win at Turf Moor when captain Cesc Fabregas opened the scoring after only seven minutes.
The Spaniard showed great balance as he weaved his way into the box and coolly slotted past Brian Jensen.
Andrey Ardhavin almost added a second for the visitors with a fierce drive that rattled the upright.
But on 28 minutes Graham Alexander’s nerveless penalty pulled Burnley level after Thomas Vermaelen brought down Andre Bikey in the box.
It was Burnley’s Chris Eagles who came closest to finding a winner, but his shot hit the post as the honours were shared.
Meanwhile Tottenham bounced back from Saturday’s home defeat against Wolves with victory over Man City.
Niko Kranjcar bagged a brace as Spurs reaffirmed their top four credentials with a ruthless 3-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Kranjcar scrambled home the opener after City’s Stephen Ireland had blocked Peter Crouch's initial header.
Jermain Defoe doubled the advantage with his 14th goal of the season, a superb first-time from eight yards. Kranjcar wrapped up an impressive victory late on when he drove in from the wing and finished with aplomb.
The win leaves Spurs fifth in the table, just two points behind rivals Arsenal who have a game in hand.
