Feature: Talks - Pauline Seward and other poets at Torriano Meeting House on 30th January

Published: 27 January, 2011

IT was sparked by finding an old menu for a swanky restaurant in Holborn among the dusty shelves at the Holborn archives – now the work this discovery prompted will be heard at the Torriano Meeting House on Sunday.

Poet Pauline Seward scooped first prize in a competition organised by the Holborn Local Studies Archives team to write poetry on the basis of their artefacts.

Pauline said: “I went to the archive to look for something else an saw the competition. One of the archivists gave me a selection of items they had  and I was struck by two menus dating from the First World War.

“I used it as a basis for a story of the poem.”

Pauline Seward and other poets are reading at the Torriano Meeting House, Torriano Avenue, NW5, on Sunday at 7.30pm
