Plaques for the memory
WE are creating a new website about Seven Dials and if any of your readers have old family pictures or information about interesting people who either lived or worked there, we would be very pleased to have this information.
Our existing site is at www.sevendials.com
The trust is working on a scheme to have plaques for past notables who either lived or worked in the area.
For example, Jeremy Catnach whose broad-sheets were famous in the early 19th century and whose workshop was in Monmouth Street or John Stephen Rimbault who worked in what was Great Andrews Street, as did the painter Zoffony apparently at the same address. Rimbault, a great 18th century clockmaker, specialised in musical clocks one of which had a representation of the Seven Dials Sundial Pillar.
London has far too few plaques to remind us of our history and not enough to remind us of long-standing family histories.
