Woman in West Hampstead rooftop drama

A WOMAN was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after a rooftop standoff with police in West Hampstead.

The 48-year-old was seen throwing furniture from a flat in Sheriff Road before climbing onto the roof of the three-storey block last Tuesday. Police talked her down after a few hours.

Newsagent Narendra Banarjee said: “Sherriff Road was closed to traffic for a few hours, from about 7pm to 11pm. We all heard what was going on but it didn't cause too much disruption on West End Lane. It was difficult for those who lived in the flats because they were left waiting outside the building. Outside on the main road, things went on as usual.”

The woman was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to a police station where she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
