A SCHOOLGIRL has been partially blinded after a gang of boys threw ammonia in her eyes.

The 13-year-old was walking with two friends, both aged 14, when the attack happened in Canonbury Grove on Saturday night.

All three girls needed hospital treatment after the attack. The 13-year-old was taken to Moorfield’s hospital in Bunhill where doctors say the damage to one of her eyes, which gave the youngster blurred vision, could be permanent.

The girl cannot be identified, but her grandfather said: “A crowd of boys came riding past her and one of them sprayed her with ammonia. Now she has to have eyedrops all the time and go back to hospital every day to have her eyes cleaned. The kids are not carrying knives now – they are carrying chemicals instead. It’s horrible that someone could do that. It was a completely unprovoked attack.

The girl’s friends were treated at the Whittington after the liquid went into their mouths. All three were released on Sunday.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested and has been bailed until June. Detectives are asking for witnesses to call 0207 421 0185 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
