A Nursery in Primrose Hill has raised hundreds of pounds in aid of poverty-stricken primary school pupils in Kenya

ST MARK’S Square School, in St Mark’s Church, started the “desk drive” after a former pupil gave a presentation about a visit to Mwea, an hour’s drive from the capital, Nairobi.

Giovani Pastrone, 12, told the children about a new school there that didn’t have proper desks.

So the “St Markians” sold tin ornaments and used the funds to commission Kenyan carpenters to make 22 desks – each with a St Mark’s logo chiselled on the side.

St Mark’s headmistress Sheema Parsons said: “This is a great achievement for St Mark’s and something the pupils can be proud of.”
