NOT convinced by the Wills and Kate Royal wedding hype? If the 12,000 members of campaign group Republic are anything to go by, you’re not alone.
Disinterested Westminster residents can now mark a different type of event into their diary for April 29. The Not the Royal Wedding Street Party promises food, drink and fun.
Covent Garden’s Earlham Street has been earmarked as the location, and hundreds have already registered to attend.
“Republic has seen a surge of interest over the past four months, with thousands of new supporters signing up and thousands of our ‘not a Royal wedding mug’ mugs being sold,” said Republic’s spokesman Graham Smith.
Republic campaigns for the abolition of the monarchy, an end to any constitutional role for the Royal Family and a directly elected head of state.
