Plan to ease match-day congestion at Holloway Road Tube station dropped
Published: 25th March, 2011
IT would have cost £70million to rebuild Holloway Road Tube station under the original plan to improve transport around the Emirates Stadium, Islington councillors were told last Thursday.
But as only £7.6million was available from Arsenal to ease match-day congestion the plans for Holloway Road were dropped.
A package of other improvements must now be agreed with Transport for London by the end of the month if they are to be implemented before the planning consent deal with Arsenal runs out.
The improvements include refurbishing Highbury and Islington station, with a new entrance and queuing area to reduce congestion. A £500,000 plan to ease flows at Drayton Park would allow the station to open on match days.
