A SHORT film shot in an Archway flat for less than £500 has scooped a top prize at the internationally acclaimed Cannes Film Festival in France.
The zombie comedy film, called I Am Lonely, tells the story of the last normal man after a zombie holocaust. It was chosen from 2,000 entries for the competition run by the National Film Board of Canada and the festival’s Short Film Corner and was the only UK finalist.
A shortlist of 10 films were posted on YouTube so viewers could vote for their favourite. I Am Lonely not only won but was endorsed by Crouch End writer Simon Pegg, who wrote and starred in the zombie film Shaun of the Dead.
Writer Jonathan Brown lives in the flat in Hazellville Road where the film was made.
It was directed by Phil Haine, who lives in Tufnell Park. He said: “We shot this film for just £500. It goes to show what a bit of ingenuity and a few favours can do. You don’t need to be part of the film-making system to make short films. Just get out and do it.”
