HIS coloured pencil doodles have already brought smiles to the faces of staff at Trafalgar Square’s The Connection, but now homeless artist Andy Manderson is planning to experiment with a delicious new material: confectionery.

Mr Manderson, who has benefited from the famous outreach services for those who sleep rough in the city, is currently in the process of creating his masterpiece – an elaborate cake on which the “journey of a homeless person” will be told through delicate icing sculptures.

The piece is set to go on show at a special one-day public exhibition, Home Is Where the Art Is, later this month, and the centrepiece will be a rough sleeper made from icing sugar.

It will be the first time that the homelessness “hub” has thrown open its doors to members of the public.

Home is Where The Art Is will be at The Connection, 12 Adelaide Street, WC2, on Wednesday June 29 from 1-7pm.
