ONE of Camden’s longest-serving summer festivals pulled in the crowds again on Saturday for an afternoon of live music, dance and magic.

But celebrations for the Queen Square Fair’s 37th anniversary raised more than just the spirits: a few eyebrows were also raised when it came to funding the event. Queen Square Fair committee chairman Michael Pountney explained: “This year, the grant from Camden was cut from £500 to £400, which we thought was because of general cuts. But we found out one of the main reasons was because the panel who decide on funding didn’t think the fair was sustainable. It’s daft considering we’re celebrating our 37th anniversary.”

Entertainment included the Millman Street Singers, the Mary Ward Line Dancers and folk music courtesy of the Northern Celts (pictured).
