STAFF at the Royal Free have raised £10,000 by racing across Hampstead Heath.
More than 50 members of staff from the Hampstead hospital took part in the Hampstead Midsummer 10k for the Royal Free Charity. IT training administrator Mala Karunaratne ran in memory of her husband, Sunil, who was cared for at the Royal Free before his death from cancer six years ago.
Mala, 57, who has worked at the hospital for 17 years, said: “I wanted to do something to give something back to all the doctors, nurses and other staff who treated my husband with such kindness and provided such excellent care.”
Volunteer services coordinator Lucy Sneddon, 56, completed the race in one hour seven minutes and was awarded a trophy for the fastest female aged over 50.
