Andrew’s song – Avalanche and Novlet Levy’s track is a YouTube hit

AN aspiring Andover estate rapper has teamed up with a singer to produce an emotional song dedicated to Andrew Jaipaul which has been posted on YouTube.

Avalanche, 24, whose real name is Kwame Ryan, and Novlet Levy, 19, both knew Andrew.

Novlet grew up on the Andover estate and said she “hung around Andrew a lot when we were younger”, and Avalanche recalled socialising with Charles, Andrew’s older brother.

“Sometimes Andrew would be there too,” said Avalanche. “Wow, he was such a gentle guy.”

Days after Andrew’s death Avalanche began creating beats as a way of expressing grief.

“I just sat on my bed and could not believe it when I heard,” he said.

Novlet wrote a chorus in his memory.

“My heart stopped beating when I heard,” she said. “It crushed me, and I cried so, so hard.”

The two combined musical talents, and the track, Tribute to Andrew Jai Paul, was recorded on Sunday, with a music video being filmed on the Andover estate the same day.

It was uploaded to YouTube on Monday afternoon, and has already received 1,000 views.

Collections around the estate have already totalled over £800, with CD sales of the track making £600 in the first week.

“We’ve all teamed up together,” said Novlet. “There’s one person in charge of getting the T-shirts made, another in charge of the necklaces, someone else for the CD sales, and there is a collection in the newsagents and all over the estate.”

Ozzy Bozcurt, who runs the newsagent, said residents regularly donated £10 at a time to his collection box.
