THE Institute of Education is ready to sponsor a landmark new secondary school in Holborn.

The project follows the decision by parents in the area to bypass claims by Camden Council that there were no suitable sites for a new school south of the Euston Road – and to find one themselves.

The Where Is My School? campaign identified lock-ups in Wren Street as a location for a small secondary school.

Camden Council’s decision to open an academy school with University College London as its partner three years ago angered families in the south of the borough who say they have been deprived of somewhere to send their secondary school-aged children for decades.

Now, campaigners are looking to use new “free school” legislation to push forward the project.

A statement from the campaign said: “We are delighted to announce that parents are now working with the Institute of Education, which is based in Bloomsbury. We have just submitted a bid to the Department for Education to build The Holborn School”.

A council spokeswoman said: “We are awaiting further details from the campaign and the government.”
