DETECTIVES in Islington are appealing for information from the public after a man and a heavily pregnant woman were robbed at Highbury Fields on New Year’s Day.

At around 10.42pm  the couple were walking around the Fields near the junction of Baalbec Road when they were approached from behind by up to six suspects.

One of them ran up to the female victim and pulled her by the neck causing her to fall, before snatching her handbag. The male victim attempted to help her but was set upon and attacked by the group.

The victim emptied out his pockets and handed over his phone, wallet and keys.

The suspects took a number of items including two phones, cash and a watch. The victim asked one of the suspects to give him back his keys and at this point the suspect noted that the female victim was heavily pregnant and handed back her NHS medical card and the keys.

The suspects made off towards the north-west area of the park.

Neither of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.

A number of their things were recovered near the scene but the cash and phones were not found.

The suspects are described as up to six young men aged between 18 and 19 of slim/proportionate build. They were all wearing scarves that partially covered their faces.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Kerry Cooper, at Islington Robbery Squad on 020 7421 0342 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
