FROM all points of the compass they “came home” to Camden’s Little Italy on Saturday.

Six hundred people celebrated the 50th anniversary of St Peter’s Catholic Social Club, next to the Italian Church in Clerkenwell Road.

The church and club serve as a focal point for the country’s Italian population, particularly those who once lived in parts of Clerkenwell and Holborn known as Little Italy.

The social club held a party to celebrate the occasion in the Royal National Hotel, near Russell Square.

Club vice-president John Fulgoni said: “People are proud of their Italian heritage and want to celebrate it. Typically, they’ll come from the London suburbs but we had some from Newcastle – and one from Italy.” –
