DISABLED children and pupils from the Swiss Cottage Special School met two peers from the House of Lords on Thursday to discuss access to sport.

Baroness Young of Hornsey, a crossbench member and artist, and Baroness Henig, a Labour peer and historian, visited the school as part of an EU social policy sub-committee.

They were told about the successes of Camden Disability Sport Team and how “obstacles” often prevent minority groups from participating in state-funded sport.

Baroness Young, a former pupil of Parliament Hill School, said: “Our visit to Swiss Cottage school has given us the opportunity to speak directly to those who may have encountered such obstacles.”

Ben Dorsett, manager of Camden’s Disability Sports Team, added: “It was great to talk about our work and how it benefits disabled people across the borough, as well as our aspirations for the future to get more disabled people playing and enjoying sport.”
