AN upmarket women’s hairdressers in Angel is attempting to take the term “salon” literally by selling alcohol to customers.

A row is brewing over the plan by The Blow Bar, based in Camden Passage, to serve booze to customers who come for an appointment between 10am and 10pm.

The plan is also to sell drink at “make-up” parties upstairs. The outlet has emphasised that no scissors or razors will be used on the premises.

But some residents say they will object to the scheme when the application is discussed at Islington Council’s licensing committee meeting at the Town Hall next Thursday at 10am.

One resident said: “This Trojan Horse has come in on the pretence of being a hairdressing salon.

“The noise would be quite inappropriate for the people living in Camden Passage.”

In their application, The Blow Bar say they offer only hairstyling services. Spokesman Damon Birrane said: “We do not cut hair, and, as such, do not use scissors or razors on our clients.

“The provision of alcohol in the salon is not the primary purpose of our business.”
