Garden Organic Master Gardener calls for volunteers

Published: 18th February, 2011

A PROJECT that supports more than 70 households in Islington to grow their own food is calling for volunteers.

Just nine months old, the Garden Organic Master Gardener programme has also reached 2,000 people in the wider community.

Now the charity is looking for more people to join the dedicated team of Master Gardeners who aim to build local skills, encourage organic growing and provide access to fresh, home-grown fruit and vegetables.

The charity works in partnership with the council’s Edible Islington programme, Sheepdrove Trust and Big Lottery’s Local Food Scheme.

Islington volunteer co-ordinator Kate Fenhalls said: “There is an increasing interest in where our food comes from and growing your own is the cheapest and most enjoyable way of ensuring the quality of your food.”
