BURGLARS are targeting a quiet road in Hampstead, the recently launched police crime maps have revealed.
Online statistics show that homes in Langland Gardens – which runs between Frognal Lane and Finchley Road – were hit three times in December.
With two similar raids nearby, a pattern can be seen emerging around the sleepy street where house prices reach into the millions.
Joy Ewer, secretary of the Lindfield and Langland Gardens Neighbourhood Association, said: “I am not in the least surprised. There are these lovely gardens and a little park behind the houses here. That’s where the burglars come from. They hide in the garden and climb over the fence.
“I’ve been burgled several times – sometimes they come in through the front windows. I live in a grand place, but I really don’t have many valuables.”
Ms Ewer, who has lived in the street for more than 50 years, said she had put locks on her windows.
She said Camden Arts Centre in Arkwright Road had recently put up a large wrought iron fence to enhance security.
Conservative councillor for Frognal Gio Spinella said: “I would urge all residents to contact SNT [Safer Neighbourhoods team].”
Lib Dem Hampstead Town ward councillor Linda Chung, who lives in Langland Gardens, said: “The maps can be a useful guide to keep the public and police alert.
“It shows that generally the Frognal and Fitzjohns, and Hampstead Town wards have an average crime rate, with occasional blips for whatever reason.
“I hope they indicate to the police that we need continuous local policing with visible police presence that know the area and can react to situations quickly.”
Camden police declined to comment.
