Netherwood Day Centre jobs axe
Published: August 25, 2011
A DAY centre for dementia sufferers that was saved from closure earlier this year has been targeted on a secret hit-list of job cuts.
Staff at Netherwood Day Centre in West Hampstead, which after being threatened with the axe earlier this year won support from actor Ricky Gervais, violinist Nigel Kennedy and barrister Dame Helena Kennedy, have been told their pay will be slashed and posts, including day care workers and senior managers, will go.
The New Journal understands that the changes, revealed in internal Camden and Islington Foundation Trust documents, will severely affect the care of some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents. Camden Council will unveil details of a consultation on proposals to shut Netherwood and open a replacement service in Kentish Town next month.
