FAST-FOOD giant McDonald’s was granted an all-night licence for its restaurant at Chapel Market, Angel, on Monday.
Despite protests about the extended hours, objectors failed to turn up at an Islington Council licensing committee meeting which was told the burger bar wanted to serve customers who worked all night or might come from bars and clubs.
The plan is for the restaurant to remain open until 5am every day. Currently, it closes at 11pm and opens at 5.30am.
The new opening hours are subject to conditions from the council, including industry standard CCTV, no open alcohol containers being allowed on the premises and deliveries being kept between 6.30am and 6.30pm. In addition, residents should not be unreasonably refused the telephone numbers of the manager and franchisee.
A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “We believe offering extended opening hours provides a convenient choice for our customers. We remain committed to being a good neighbour, which includes regular litter patrols, community clean-up events and litter education projects. Our door is always open if anyone would like to discuss concerns about the impact of our operation on the community.”
