LABOUR leader Ed Miliband recalled fond memories when he returned to University College London Hospital for a guided tour.

“I love UCLH,” he said. “It has special meaning for me because it’s where my children were born.”

Mr Miliband, who lives in Dartmouth Park, was speaking during a tour of the hospital’s radiotherapy department with chief executive Sir Robert Naylor, medical director Geoff Bellingan and radiotherapy services manager Julia Solano on Thursday. The trust is building the biggest cancer hospital in the country and is working on bringing specialist proton beam therapy to cancer patients.

Mr Miliband said: “It’s fantastic seeing what is being delivered for cancer patients here with the most modern technology.

“It is incredibly exciting to hear about new plans for proton beam therapy and a specialist cancer centre. It’s a great tribute to what UCLH is doing that it is cutting edge in so many different ways.”

Sir Robert said: “It was a pleasure to show Ed Miliband around the hospital. He obviously cares passionately about the NHS, as we all do.”
