‘A new era for sport’ as Karen Pickering swims in to Marshall Street Baths

OLYMPIC swimming star Karen Pickering MBE made a splash when she popped in to visit Soho’s recently refurbished Marshall Street Baths.

“Whenever I come here I just want to dive in,” she said, as she led a pool teaching session. 

Her visit came as Westminster Council agreed a new contract with Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), which will manage the authority’s six sports and leisure facilities.

Under the agreement, young people from local estates will benefit from 50 hours of free activities a week. 

Councillor Steve Summers, cabinet member for community services, said: “With the Olympics just over a year away, we are delighted to begin this new era for sport in Westminster.”
