A TV presenter from Queen’s Park paid a visit to a Paddington hospital this week and became a patron of a charity that helps child patients.

Pui Fan Lee, a presenter on the BBC’s children’s TV channel CBeebies and the star of its hit show Teletubbies, toured St Mary’s Hospital and met patients including 10-year-old Rahil Vig.

The Chinese actress pledged to help raise money for CHAMPS, the Centre for Haematology at St Mary’s and the UK’s first bone marrow transplant centre.

She said: “St Mary’s is my local hospital and I am honoured to be part of the CHAMPS team.

“I know a little bit more about blood now, and what this unit does and how the children’s conditions are treated.  The hospital is doing an amazing job.”

St Mary’s   consultant paediatric haematologist Dr Josu de la Fuente said: “Some of the conditions we treat are rare and therefore not well known, so often families require a specialist unit such as us to support them.

“Pui will help us to raise the profile of the work the unit does on these little-known conditions which can have very serious consequences for the children and families. We aim to improve their care and the research into these conditions and their treatment.”
