“FREEZE! PUT YOUR WEAPONS ON THE GROUND!”

The police Tannoy blared across Regent’s Park, leaving dog walkers frozen with terror in the face of what looked like an armed siege of the Royal College of Physicians.

Thankfully, this wasn’t a high stakes attempt to foil germ warfare, but the filming location for an episode of the hit BBC series Silent Witness.

The college had been draped in flags as a stand in for the Dutch embassy. Ambulances, police cars and paramedics filled the street, and actors Emilia Fox and Tom Ward could be seen staggering out of the building.

Around 70 people were involved in the two-day shoot last month and the episode is expected to be screened some time in the autumn of 2011. Filming went smoothly apart from a problem with the fake blood, which was so sweet, it attracted a hive of wasps to the area.
