FIVE six-month-old black cats were found abandoned in a cardboard box on a doorstep in Chalk Farm.

They have been waiting for a new home in the RSPCA North London shelter in Finsbury Park for two weeks.

The black cats are among hundreds of abandoned cats who are in need of a permanent home.

Branch manager Jenny Eden called the kittens “gorgeous”, adding: “In this case we suspect it was someone who bred their cat to sell to a pet shop and then didn’t know what to do with the kittens when the pet shop didn’t want them. The recession means more and more people are being evicted or forced to move and their animals are made homeless too.”
