New Journal v Labour! Match to support Pakistan flood fund

CAMDEN’S Labour councillors often complain that the New Journal goes in too hard over their policies at the Town Hall. Now they have a challenge for us. 

Holborn and Covent Garden councillor Awale Olad has set up a showdown on the football pitch – and the tough tackles will all be for a good cause.

A charity match between the New Journal and Camden’s Labour group will take place at Haverstock School in Chalk Farm on Tuesday night at 6pm in aid of the Pakistan flood relief appeal.

Cllr Olad said: “I was unsettled by the devas­tating floods in Pakistan and organised this foot­ball match with the CNJ to try and raise awareness and as much money as possible through ticket sales and donations. We have tickets left and I hope more people will buy them or at least donate £10.”

Reporters will tackle the likes of council leader Nasim Ali and finance chief Theo Blackwell on the night. London Assembly member Murad Qureshi is rumoured to have signed up to the Labour team. Supporters – especially ones with donations – are welcome. 

The pitch has been generously donated for free by Kajima Haverstock, which offers sports facilities at the school.
