CHILDREN at Eleanor Palmer Primary School have provided their whole school with a giant potato salad – with potatoes grown and picked from own their new allotment.

The Year 4 pupils’ classroom looks out on to the allotment where leeks, runner beans, potatoes and much more grow. Headteacher Kate Frood said: “The whole school – pupils, staff and governing body – are all committed to sustainable development.”

The project began in the Easter holidays of this year and was the brainchild of Tim Peake, a governor of the school. Pupils have since been involved in every stage of the cultivation process. Eleanor Palmer has been awarded a silver level Eco-Schools award, which is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world, for their efforts.
